In the village of Broliq in Peja, Sali Çekaj was born, a fighter for the liberation of Kosovo, the Hero of Kosovo. He studied at the Law Faculty of the University of Pristina (1981). He worked as a judge, then president of the Municipal Court in Deçan and the Misdemeanor Court in Deçan. In 1990, he left Kosovo and emigrated to Germany, where he continued his activity in the branch of the Democratic League of Kosovo. During the period 1994-1997, he entered Kosovo several times, in preparation for armed actions and for the beginning of the liberation war. Together with the guerilla groups he led, he carried out several attacks against Serbian forces in the territory of the municipality of Deçan. Together with Agim Ramadani and other fellow fighters of Brigade 138, he made an important contribution to the planning and development of the Koshare War. He took part in breaking the Kosovo-Albania border in April 1999. He was the founder of Brigade 138 “Agim Ramadani”. He fell heroically in 1999, at the place called Rasa e Koshare. In April 2016, on the 17th anniversary of the battle of Koshare, the Post of Kosovo issued a postage stamp with the image of Sali Çekaj. He was decorated with the “Hero of Kosovo” Order.
