Emanuele Giordano

In Frasnita (it. Frascineto) in Calabria, in Italy, Emanuele Giordano, researcher, was born, one of the most important personalities of Arberesh culture. He completed primary school in his hometown, then went to Hora e Arbëreshë (Italian: Piana degli Albanesi) high-school. In 1933, he continued his studies at the Grotaferrata Seminary (Rome), studying philosophy and theology. Emanuele Giordano was an expert and attentive researcher of philology, Italian literature and Arbëresh, as well as the author of many important works, among which we mention: “Dictionary of Italian Arbëreshvet” (1963); “Shpata e Skenderbeut nde Dibrë Poshte” (1967); “Alfabetizzazione Arbëreshe” (Writing and reading Arbëresh, 2000). In 1972, he directed the cultural magazine “Voice of Arbëreshvet” ( La voce degli Albanesi d’Italia ), as well as collaborated with Ernest Koliq’s magazine “Shejzat” and Albino Greco’s “Zgjimi” magazine. He passed away in the hospital of Lungros (Italy) in 2015. With the initiative taken by the Center for Studies and Publications for Arbëreshët (QSPA) from 2020, one of the streets of Tirana bears the name “Emanuele Giordano”.
