Filip Shiroka

Lexo ngjarje:

Filip Shiroka, a poet and activist of the national movement, was born in Shkodër. Early on, he was forced to emigrate from his hometown due to his involvement in the events of 1878-1881. He lived in Egypt and later in Lebanon, where he worked as a railway engineer. Under the pseudonym Gegë Postriba, he published various poems and articles. Filip Shiroka began his literary career influenced by the poets of his time, particularly Leonardo de Martino, but he soon carved out his own path, crafting poems rich in emotion and lyricism. A friend of Pashko Vasë and Luigj Gurakuqi, and a close collaborator of Çajup, he dedicated his art to the service of his homeland and the liberation struggle against foreign oppression. He expressed a deep longing for his hometown, Shkodra, and celebrated the beauty of Albanian nature in his work. Many of his poems served as a passionate call to resist Ottoman slavery. In the name of uniting all Albanians, regardless of religion or region, he powerfully raised his voice against religious factions in the fight for the freedom of the homeland. Filip Shiroka was an independent poet with subtle feelings, expressed in a sweet and pure language. He passed away in Lebanon in 1935. (In the photo: Filip Shiroka)
