In Bresanone, Italy, Karl Gurakuqi, teacher and head of education, author of educational texts, publicist and head of pedagogical press bodies, passed away. He was born in Shkodër, in 1895. He completed his higher studies at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Graz (Austria). After returning to his homeland (1917), he served as a teacher in Shkodër and participated in the Literary Commission, as its secretary; he was secretary of the democratic Federation “Atdheu” (“Fatherland”)(1921); worked as an education inspector in Vlora, Albanian and Latin teacher at the “Nana Mbretneshë” (“Queen Mother”) Institute in Tirana; he was an inspector and head of section in the Ministry of Education; member of the Institute of Albanian Studies. Karl Gurakuqi edited and directed the magazines “Atdheu” (“Fatherland”) (1921), “Agimi” (“Dawn”)(1921-1922), “Revista pedagogjike” (“Pedagogical magazine”) (1925-1927), “Mesuesi” (“The teacher”) (1928), “Illyria” (1935-1936) and “Shkolla kombëtare” (“National school”)(1938). His main publications belong to the field of education, such as: “Libër leximi për shkollat e mesme” (“Reading book for secondary schools”)(co-author, 1920), “Gramatika latine” (“Latin grammar”)(1938), “Gramatika shqipe” (“Albanian grammar”)(1940), “Rreze drite” (“Ray of light”)(1941), etc. . He pronounced several literary, scientific and historical works from Italian, German, Serbo-Croatian and Latin. In the fall of 1944, he settled in Italy. (In the photo: Karl Gurakuqi)
