Shyqyri Alimerko, a participant in the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War and Hero of the People, was killed in Lepenica, Vlora. Born in Tragjas, Vlora, in 1923, he attended trading high school in Vlora, where he embraced progressive democratic ideas. Following the fascist occupation, Alimerko became one of the active members of the National Liberation Anti-Fascist Movement in Vlora, participating in anti-fascist demonstrations and aiding in the burning of Italian army ammunition depots in Pashaliman in August 1941. He was arrested several times due to his anti-fascist activities and became a member of the Albanian Communist Party in 1942. Alimerko met his end while fighting against the supporters of Sadik Premte’s group in Lepenica, Vlora. (In the photo: Shyqyri Alimerko)
