On the war front of the Ebro River in Spain, Asim Vokshi, activist of the communist movement, participant in the Spanish War, Hero of the People, was killed. He was born in Gjakova. He started primary school in his hometown (1916-1918), but due to the tragic events after the annexation of Kosovo by Serbia, he finished it in Kolgecaj (Tropojë). He attended high school in Shkodër. He attended the Military Academy in Italy and returned home in 1932 with the rank of lieutenant. He served in the army until October 1935. In 1934 he joined forces with other young soldiers to prepare an armed uprising against the regime of Ahmet Zog. On the eve of the Fier uprising of 1935, he was arrested and sentenced to imprisonment and exile. In 1936, he was the administrator of the progressive magazine “ABC” and continued to keep in touch with activists of communist groups and other progressive elements. At the beginning of 1937 he went to Spain to fight against fascism and in defense of the Republic. He joined the XII “Garibaldi” Brigade. He fell in one of the fierce battles at the head of the formation he commanded. (In the photo: Asim Vokshi)
