Dhimitër Xhuvani, writer, died in Tirana. He was born in Pogradec, in 1934. He attended the Medical College and worked for several years as an assistant physician. The first tests in the field of literature also belong to this time. He completed his higher studies in the branch of Albanian language and literature at the University of Tirana (1959) and additional studies at the Institute of World Literature “Maxim Gorky” in Moscow (1959-1960). He worked in various literary press bodies and then became a freelance writer. After the collection of stories “Kambana e fundit” (“The last bell”)(1960), which aroused readers’ interest in the psychologism and the special color of the discourse, Dhimitër Xhuvani published his first novel “Tuneli” (“The tunnel”) (1966), which was not well received by official critics and was removed from circulation as a work that “promoted” reality. The writer was sent to the work site to “get to know life”. After four years, he published the novel “Përsëri në këmbë” (“Standing again”) (1970) with a subject centered around the life of a hero who overcomes personal misfortune through work. The novel remained the favorite genre of Dhimitër Xhuvan’s creativity even after that. Xhuvan’s narration is characterized by a simple and flowing style, the construction of shocking subjects, often through unexpected events and scenes and internal monologue. He also worked on scripts. He is the author of the screenplay of the films “Mëngjese lufte” (“Mornings of war”)(1971) and “I dashur armik” (“Dear enemy”)(2003). He received the Republic Award of the Third Degree.
