The first issue of the newspaper “Republika” (“The Republic”) (1923-1925), a weekly political, social and cultural newspaper, was published in Shkodër; it was also partially published in French. Founder and owner Nikollë Ivanaj, director Mirash Ivanaj. Its aim was to “train the people in public governance” , for which it was banned at the beginning of July 1925. From issue to issue, the newspaper expanded its profile, raising and addressing literary and scientific issues. 44 numbers circulated, as well as 2 special numbers. After the banning of this publication, in 1925, a single issue appeared, but with the name “Koha e Re” (“New Time”). (In the photo: Topographical map of Shkodra, 1923.)
