Ylli Pepo, a journalist, screenwriter, director, and producer of Albanian Television, as well as Honored Artist, was born in Korçë. Unlike most directors who entered Albanian Television from the High Institute of Arts, Pepo began his career there in January 1970 after graduating from the Faculty of History-Philology. He approached directing through a different “gate”, coming from the literary and journalistic world. This background influenced his early work, which focused on documentary films dedicated to culture, art, and literature. Later, he became drawn to the lives of ordinary people. His first film in this direction, “Zerat e Trenave” (“Voices of Trains”), won the first prize at the inaugural Journalism Competition in 1972 and is considered the first genuine Albanian television documentary.
