In Përmet, Laver Bariu, a clarinetist, singer and creator of Përmet’s saz group, People’s Artist, was born. He was developed as a musician in the family environment, under the influence of his father and his friends, musicians, and popular singers. The composers of Leskovik also influenced him. Laver Bariu has participated in all Folklore Festivals of Gjirokastra, other national festivals, and many tours abroad. He has registered music recordings in the country’s leading institutions as well as in the Albanian Radio Television and accompanied well-known famous singers. He has also produced several CDs with Albanian and foreign researchers. He is a participant and main producer of the music in a series of films of Kinostudio “Shqipëria e Re ” (New Albania), such as “General Gramafoni” (Vinyl General) (1977), ” Këngët e zemrës” (Songs of the heart) (1989). In 2001, by the decision of the municipal council of the city of Përmet, he was declared “Honorary Citizen” alongside the brothers Frashëri, Odhise Paskali, and Mendor Xhemali.
