Agron Aliaj

In Tirana, Agron Aliaj, dancer and choreographer, People’s Artist, passed away. He was born in Borsh, Saranda, in 1933. After completing his higher studies as a dancer at the Academic Choreographic School at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow (1951–1956), he joined the ballet troupe of the Opera and Ballet Theatre, where he performed lead roles in ballets such as: “The Vain Precaution”, “Franceska da Rimini”, “Paganini”, “Delina”, as well as various choreographic concert numbers, either drawn from ballets or created by himself to the music of well-known composers. Starting from 1969, he served as the principal ballet master of the Opera and Ballet Theatre, where he directed ballets such as The Nutcracker (Tchaikovsky), Giselle (Adam), Don Quixote (Minkus), Cinderella and Romeo and Juliet (Prokofiev), “Cuca e Maleve” (“The Girl of the Mountains”) and “Historia e një kënge” (“The Story of a Song”) (Nikolla Zoraqi), Before the Storm (Çesk Zadeja), and The Tenth Wound of Gjergj Elez Alia (Feim Ibrahimi). He created numerous choreographic miniatures to both Albanian and foreign music, including several well-known works (Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella). He is one of the founders of the Albanian choreographic school.
