Aleksandar Stipčević, historian of antiquity, Illyrian scholar, academic was born in Arbnesh of Zadar. He was born in an Albanian family. He went to high school in his hometown, studied archeology and graduated from the University of Zagreb (1954). In 1957 he started working at the National University Library of Zagreb. In the early 70s of the XIX century, he was an archeology lecturer at the University of Pristina. Director of the Library of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Zagreb (1974–1983). Aleksandar Stipčevič has been a member of the editorial board of the magazine “Albanological traces” for 15 years. After completing his doctorate (1977), a year later he won the titles: “Senior Advisor in Librarianship” and “Scientific Advisor in the field of social sciences”. Aleksandar Stipčevič became a full professor at the Faculty of Philosophy (department of librarianship) of the University of Zagreb. He is the author of many studies in the field of Illyrianology, such as: ” Gli Illiri “, 1967 (“The Illyrians”); ” Arte degli Illiri “, 1967 (“Art of the Illyrians”); ” Bibliographia Illyrica “, 1967 (“Bibliography for the Illyrians”); ” Kultni simboli kod Ilira”, 1983 (“Symbols of the cult of lindens”); “Problemi i vazhdimësisë iliro-shqiptare dhe aktualizimi i tij politik sot “ (“The problem of Illyrian-Albanian continuity and its political actualization today)” etc., as well as in the field of Albanology: “Interpretime albanologjike” (“Albanological interpretations”), “Etnogjeneza e shqiptarëve” (“Ethnogenesis of Albanians”), “Albanologjia në Kroaci” (“Albanology in Croatia”) etc.; also published the monograph “Historia e librit” (“History of the book”) (1988) and a number of scientific articles.
