Andrea Bogdani, Archbishop of Skopje, a prominent figure of the Albanian church and culture of the 17th century, passed away. Andrea Bogdani worked for the education of the Albanian people. He compiled a grammar of Albanian in Latin-Albanian, wrote many texts for the needs of Albanian teaching, and engaged in collecting popular linguistic expressions. These works, as noted by his nephew, Pjetër Bogdani, who inherited the archdiocesan seat along with its archives, “dissolved like salt in water” during the countless vicissitudes of life. Pjetër Bogdani, one of the most renowned writers of early Albanian literature, succeeded him as Archbishop of Skopje in 1677. (In the photo: Andrea Bogdani)
