Elton Zherka, a fighter of the Kosovo Liberation Army and martyr, was born in Gjakova. He completed primary school and high school in his hometown before continuing his studies at the University of Pristina, focusing on law. He actively participated in demonstrations and revolts and joined the “Mother Teresa” humanitarian association, where he provided aid to the innocent and vulnerable population. On April 18, 1998, he enlisted in the Kosovo Liberation Army, serving in the “Commando” unit of the Dukagjin Operational Zone, particularly in the village of Gllogjan, which was a focal point for events and battles in the Dukagjin Plain. His last act of heroism took place during the Junik War, where he engaged in a fierce face-to-face battle with Serbian forces, ultimately falling while defending Kosovo from Serbian reprisals on August 10, 1998.
