Eshref Frashëri

Eshref Frashëri, political activist, was born. He completed high school and higher studies for construction engineering in Istanbul and from 1914 he participated in the Albanian patriotic committee there. He was one of the organizers of the Lushnja National Congress (1920), deputy prime minister and general director of Public Works (January 31–November 14, 1920). He was elected president of the Albanian Parliament that emerged from the elections of April 5, 1921. In 1925 he was elected senator and in September of that year he was appointed president of the Senate. Eshref Frashëri was suspected of having participated in the secret activities of the Southern Beylers against Ahmet Zog. In 1926, Eshref Frashëri handed over the office of Senate president and Pandeli Evangjeli was appointed to that position. But in 1932 he was elected again as a member of Parliament. In August 1938, he was elected to the presidency of SITA (Shoqëria Industriale Tregtare Shqiptare). He passed away in 1938. (In the photo: Eshref Frashëri)
