Hafëz Ali Korça, a nationalist activist, teacher, poet, and journalist, passed away in Kavajë. He was born in Korçë in 1873. He completed his secondary education in his hometown. He pursued higher studies in theology and philosophy in Istanbul. Upon returning, he served as a mufti in Korçë and took care of establishing a high school, where he also taught. He performed the duties of Chief Mufti of the High Council of Sharia in Shkodër (1918) and Chairman of the High Council of Sharia in Tirana (1918–1924). He was one of the founders of the Tirana Madrasa and one of its first teachers. He was sentenced by the communist regime as a reactionary cleric and a member of the National Front. In his later years, he was interned in Kavajë. He published “Alfabeti Arabisht” (“Arabic Alphabet”) (1914) for teaching the Arabic language; “Gramatika, Syntaksa shqip-abisht” (“Albanian-Arabic Syntax, grammar”) and “Fjalime” (Speeches) for secondary schools (1916); “Shtatë ëndrrat e Shqipërisë” (“The Seven Dreams of Albania”) (1924), “Kur’ani i Madhënueshim e thelbi i tij” (“The Magnificent Qur’an and its Essence”) (1926), etc. (In the photo: Hafëz Ali Korça)
