Hamdi Ohri

Hamdi Ohri, patriot and activist of the national movement in Ohrid and in the Sanjak of Dibra, passed away. He was born in Ohrid, in 1874. After finishing the city school in Bitola, he studied for two years at the military high school in Istanbul. From a young age he devoted himself to the spread of national ideas; opened a French-language school in Ohrid, whose official permission he used to turn it into a school for learning the Albanian language. He stayed for a while in Bucharest, where he entered into cooperation with patriots of the Albanian colony. He participated as a delegate of Ohrid in the Assembly of Vlora (1912), which proclaimed the Independence of Albania. In 1914 he retired from political life. (In the photo: Hamdi Ohri)
