In front of the mosque in the village of Sauk, Tirana, Hoxhe Selim Brahja, a Muslim cleric, was killed by partisans. Born in the village of Sauk in 1890, he graduated in theology in Turkey. In 1916, after considerable effort, he and Mehmet Efendi Sauk succeeded in opening the first Albanian school in their village. Brahja actively participated in the Fan Noli movement of 1924. In March 1940, he was arrested by Italian forces and sentenced to four months in prison. He was ultimately killed in 1943. (In the photo: Hoxhe Selim Brahja)
