Kahreman Ylli, activist of the anti-fascist movement, participant of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War, high official of the state and the Labor Party of Albania, Teacher of the People, passed away. He was born in Leshnjë in Skrapar, in 1917. He attended the “Normal” school in Elbasan and served as a teacher in Zaloshnjë (Skrapar, 1935-1936). In the years 1936–1938, he completed his higher studies at the Pedagogical Academy of Lyon (France). He joined the anti-fascist movement of progressive Albanian political emigration in France, became a member of the “Vëllazëria (“Brotherhood”) society of Lyon and collaborated with the “Populli(“People”) newspaper. Member of the French Communist Party (1937). After returning to his homeland (October 1938), he served in various positions in the field of education. Member of the Albanian Communist Party immediately after its establishment. He went underground in April 1943. As the political secretary of the Regional Committee of the Albanian Communist Party for Berat, he worked for the creation of detachments and partisan units, for the establishment of national liberation councils and the mobilization of the people in the war against fascism. He put all his family’s wealth at the disposal of the war and turned the house into the main base of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War. Commissar of the Headquarters of the National Liberation Army for the District of Berat (August 1943). Participant in the First National Conference of the Albanian Communist Party (March 1943) and in the First National Liberation Anti-Fascist Congress (Përmet, May 1944), where he was elected a member of the National Liberation Anti-Fascist Council. Commissar of the XIV Assault Brigade (August 1944). He was wounded in the fighting for the liberation of Saranda (October 1944). After treatment at the allied hospital in Taranto (Italy), he returned to his homeland (December 1944). He was charged with a series of duties, such as: representative of the Albanian state at the German Reparations Agency in Brussels (March 1946), Minister Plenipotentiary in France (May 1946 – December 1948), member of the Albanian delegation at the Paris Peace Conference (1946). , member of the Albanian delegation at the Security Council (New York) and representative of the Albanian state at the Hague International Court (1947) for the issue of the Corfu Channel incident. Then he worked in the education and culture sector: Minister of Education (1949–1952), Chairman of the National Commission for the Fight against Illiteracy (1949–1957), Deputy Minister of Education and Culture (1952–1961), Rector of the University of Tirana (1961-1970). He was elected a candidate of the Central Committee of the Albanian Labor Party in the IV Congress of the Albanian Labor Party (1961) and a member of the Central Committee in the VI Congress (1971). Kahreman Ylli has helped with expanding the educational system and raising its scientific level; has led many reforms in education and science. Deputy of the People’s Assembly in all legislatures and member of the Presidium of the People’s Assembly in the years 1966-1975. He was decorated with the “Honour of the Nation” order.
