In Damjan of Tirana, Mihal Duri, a participant in the National Liberation Anti-Fascist War and Hero of the People, was killed while fighting against the fascists. He was born in Erind of Lunxheria (Gjirokastër) in 1916. Duri worked as a typographer in Tirana, where he embraced communist ideas and became one of the organizers and leaders of the anti-fascist and labor movement among typographers. He was also a founder of the Association of Typographers and Carpenters of Tirana. He was imprisoned in 1941 but escaped in September and went underground. A member of the Albanian Communist Party since its founding, Duri was one of the organizers of the illegal press and served as secretary of the cell of the Albanian Communist Party in the anti-fascist detachment of Peza. He participated in the detachment’s first combat actions in Tirana, Ndroq, Durrës, and other locations. (In the photo: Mihal Duri)
