Qazim Mulleti, the former prefect of Tirana, has passed away. Born in Tirana, he began his education in Manastir before attending the “Zosimea” high school in Ioannina. Coming from one of the influential families of the time, he furthered his studies at the “Gallatasaray” high school in Istanbul. Mulleti witnessed the declaration of independence in Tirana and became involved in the political developments of the time. Following the arrival of Prince Vidi, Mulleti accompanied him to Vienna. Upon his return, he actively participated in the political movements of 1920 and strongly advocated for Tirana’s designation as the capital during the Congress of Lushnja. A supporter of the Noli forces, he opposed King Zog from the outset. During a climate of political uncertainty, he was declared a “traitor” and convicted in Tirana, prompting him to seek refuge in Paris, where he received support from Italian sources. With the arrival of Fascist Italy, Qazim Mulleti returned to hold governmental positions. He eventually left Tirana upon the emergence of the National Liberation Army, leaving his wife and son behind. As head of the prefecture of Tirana, he became one of the most vilified figures of his time. (In the photo: Qazim Mulleti)
