Said Najdeni (Hoxhë Voka), activist of the National Movement, Teacher of the People, passed away. He was born in the village of Perlep in Dibra e Madhe, in 1864. He completed his higher studies in Istanbul, at the Hajdar Fatihu Madrasah (1884). After opening the first Albanian school in Korça (1887), he secretly opened the first Albanian school in Dibra e Madhe (1888) in the basement of Sherif Gorence’s store. Then he opened other schools in Golloborde, Zerqan, Dohoshisht, Brezhdan, etc. Due to his patriotic activity, he was arrested and sentenced to 15 months in prison in Istanbul. Although sick with tuberculosis, Said Najdeni helped organize the “Covenant of Dibra”, which became part of the “League of Peja” (1899). In 1900, he published in Sofia the book “Abetare e gjuhës shqipe, ndë të folë gegenisht“, based on Sami Frashër’s primer. (In the photo: Said Najdeni)
