In Tirana, Shyqyri Ishmi, participant of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War, Hero of the People, was hanged by the Italian fascists. He was born in Tivar, in a family originally from Ishëm of Durrës, in 1922. For economic reasons, he left school and worked as an electrician. He took part in the resistance of April 7, 1939 against the fascist occupation of Albania. He was accepted into the ranks of the Albanian Communist Party since its formation. Member, from the beginning, in guerrilla units of Tirana, carried out daring actions and assassinations. He was caught during the burning of the Italian school, tortured and hanged in 1942.
