Sotir Papahristo, classical philologist, education activist, author of pedagogical works, head of educational institutions, translator, candidate of philological sciences, passed away. Meritorious teacher. He was born in the village of Dhëmbell in Devoll (today in Greece), in 1887. After graduating from Korça high school, he continued his higher studies in classical philology at the University of Athens. After finishing his studies, he served as a professor of the language and classical Greek literature at the high school of Korça; professor and administrative director of the Korça National High School (1927–1933); director of the “Nana Mbretneshë“ (“Queen Mother”) Women’s Institute (1933-1939); teacher at the pedagogic high school “17 Nëntori“ (“17 November”) in Tirana (1944-1947); translator at the “Naim Frashëri” publishing house and scientific worker at the Institute of Sciences and the Institute of History and Linguistics (1948-1968). He published the pedagogical study books: “Qeverimi i fëmijëve në shkollë” (“The governance of children at school”) (Korçë, 1928); “Mësime shembullore” (“Exemplary lessons”) (Korçë, 1930); “Hartime dhe ushtrime në shkollat fillore e të mesme” (“Compositions and exercises in primary and secondary schools”) (Korçë, 1936). He created the textbooks: “Gramatika e greqishtes se vjetër“ (“Grammar of ancient Greek”) (I, 1938 – II, 1940) and “Sintaksa e greqishtes së vjetër” (“Ancient Greek Syntax”) (1942). He translated and adapted some educational and pedagogical works into the Albanian language, as well as several literary works by classical Greek authors, such as Aeschylus, Sophocles, Aristophanes, Aristotle, Plutarch, etc. (In the photo: Sotir Papahristo)
