In the municipality of Skenderaj in Kosovo, the “Battles of New Rezalla”, the first operation of the frontal war between the forces of the Kosovo Liberation Army and the Serbian military police forces, took place. On 25.11.1997, Serbian forces, camouflaged as groups of electricians, tried to penetrate one of the free zones of Drenica, in the village of Vojnike. This action was quickly discovered by Kosovo Liberation Army units, who put up a strong resistance, which forced the Serbian forces to retreat with significant losses in men and combat equipment. The next day , units of the Kosovo Liberation Army of the Operative Zone of Drenica, under the leadership of Adem Jashari, organized the frontal defense by implementing surprise tactics with ambushes in a large space. The frontal battle lasted 4 hours. The Serbian forces suffered great losses in combat technique, but also many killed and wounded. (In the photo: View from the village of Rezalle e Re.)
