Viktor Eftimiu, romanian writer of Albanian origin, academician of Romania, was born in Boboshtica in Korça. In his hometown, he attended a Greek school; settled in Romania in 1897. He ranks among the most prominent representatives of romanian literature of the 20th century. Although he lived far from his hometown, Viktor Eftimiu maintained his spiritual ties with Albania. In the 20s of the 20th century, he was the head of a society of patriots in Bucharest, which worked for the protection of the rights of Albania as an independent state. At this time, in support of Albania’s interests, he also wrote a series of articles in the foreign press. He came to Albania in 1971, visited his hometown and assessed the country’s progress. Viktor Eftimiu wrote a series of creations with Albanian motifs: “Portrete dhe kujtime” (“Portraits and memories”), “Dy kryqe” (“Two crosses”), the poem “Skënderbeu” (“Skanderbeg”) and the essay “Folklor shqiptar” (“Albanian folklore”). Some of his works have been translated into Albanian, while some others have also been staged. Viktor Eftimiu was a honorary member of the League of Writers and Artists of Albania. He was decorated with the “Naim Frashëri” order of the first class. He passed away in Bucharest, Romania, in 1972. (In the photo: Viktor Eftimiu)
