Xhemail Mustafa, writer, publicist, political activist was killed in Pristina. He was born in Gllamnik in Podujevo, in 1953. He completed primary and secondary education in his hometown and in Podujevo. Then he studied Albanian language and literature at the Faculty of Philology in Pristina. At the same time, he studied journalism. In 1978, he started working in the newspaper “Rilindja” (“Renaissance”), first as a journalist of the culture section and later as its editor. In the late 80s and early 90s of the 20th century, he was involved in the political developments of the time, becoming one of the founders of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK). Then for many years he was a member of the presidency of the Democratic League of Kosovo and its spokesperson. In 1998 he published the critically acclaimed work “Mrekullia e Shkrimit” (“The miracle of writing”) and two years later he published his second book “Një lutje për Prishtinën” (“A prayer for Pristina”)(2000). In this work, he described the days and nights of terror in Pristina during the NATO bombings and the state of terror exercised by the Serbian forces on the citizens of Kosovo. The work is built in the form of a diary for “78 net të frikës, kurajës dhe shpresës” (“78 nights of fear, courage and hope”), as long as the NATO operation on Serbian targets in Kosovo and Serbia lasted. Xhemail Mustafa was killed in an assassination attempt near his residence in Prishtina, in 2000. In 2004, an elementary school in Pristina was named after him, while in 2012, the “Ibrahim Rugova” Foundation published the complete work of Xhemail Mustafa in two volumes. .
