Ymer Dishnica, political activist, participant of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War and one of the leaders of the Albanian Labor Party, passed away. He was born in Dishnicë, Korça, in 1912. He attended the National Lyceum (French) in Korça (1932) and studied medicine in Lyon and Paris (1932–1941). During these years, he was a member of the French Communist Party. As the leader of the group of students and anti-fascist Albanians, he organized protests in support of the resistance of the Albanian people against the fascist occupation. After graduation, he opened a private clinic in Korça, where he also conducted illegal anti-fascist activities. Due to persecution by the fascist regime, he went into ilegality. He participated in the First National Liberation Conference, as a delegate of the Albanian Communist Party, where he was elected a member of the Provisional National Liberation General Council. At the Meeting of Mukje (1943), where he headed the delegation of the Albanian Communist Party, he accepted the platform proposed by the National Front for the creation of the Rescue Committee of Albania. For this, he was severely criticized for concessions to the National Front at the II National Liberation Conference and at the Plenum of the Albanian Communist Party held in Helma (May 1944). At the Second Meeting of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation Council in Berat (1944), he was appointed Minister of Health in the democratic government of Albania. In 1947, he was dismissed from the post of Minister of Health and placed at the disposal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as a translator. In June 1955 he was arrested and sentenced to six years of imprisonment, on the charge of agitation and propaganda. After a year, he was forgiven the remaining sentence and until the end of the communist regime, he remained isolated in Berat. In 1994, he was elected chairman of the United War Veterans Organization. (In the photo: Ymer Dishnica)
