Zhani Ciko, violinist, conductor, was born. He completed his secondary and higher studies for violin at the artistic high school “Jordan Misja” and at the State Conservatory of Tirana. After graduation (1967) he was appointed concertmaster and soloist in the Symphony Orchestra of the Opera and Ballet Theater, where he performed as a concertist in several major national violinistic works, mainly premiere performances (Nikolla Zoraq’s concerts 1, 2, 3). Meanwhile, he worked as a lecturer at the High Institute of Arts, Artistic Director of the Opera and Ballet Theater (1970-1973) and, after an imposed break, in 1979 he resumed his work as a lecturer and director of the ” Jordan Misja” Artistic High School ; in 1989 he was appointed artistic director of the Albanian Radio Television, in 2003 director of the Opera and Ballet Theatre. In 1985, he founded and led the string orchestra “Virtuozët e rinj” (“Young Virtuosos”), which became known at home and abroad through the May Concerts and a series of tours in various European countries (Austria, France, Greece, Italy, Spain, Hungary, etc). In the framework of the Albanian New Music Days Festival, in the 90s of the 20th century he founded the AMRA string orchestra, with which he performed several premiere works, conducted the first contemporary Albanian opera “Oirat” (Aleksandër Peçi). Zhani Ciko is a member of several national and international music forums. He was decorated with the “Grand Master of Work” order. (In the photo: Zhani Ciko)
