On April 2, 1944, Memo Meto (1910–1944), an activist of the National Liberation Anti-Fascist War, poet, and “Hero of the People,” was killed in Kuç, Kurvelesh. Born in Kuç, Kurvelesh, he joined the Albanian Communist Party soon after its founding and was one of the main organizers of the Kurvelesh people’s resistance against the fascist occupation. He contributed to the formation of partisan squads and took part in the Battle of Gjorm (1943). (In photo: Memo Meto)
