The painter Vangjush Mio was born in Korça, part of the Albanian realist artists of the first half of the 20th century. He was one of the most important figures of the Albanian visual arts, an outstanding landscape and portraitist, appreciated and known as the “poet” of the Albanian landscape. Vangjush Mio studied painting at the National School of Fine Arts in Bucharest, Romania (1915–1919) and in Rome, where he studied at the Royal Academy of Saint Luca. Vangjush Mio was the first impressionist painter in Albania. The artist’s house in Korça has been declared a “Museum House,” and the Cultural Center bears his name. He was awarded the title “People’s Painter”. (In the photo: Vangjush Mio)
