On April 4, 2016, Zef Mirdita, historian, professor, passed away in Zagreb. External member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Kosova. He was born in Prizren, where he completed the classical high school. He completed higher studies and graduated in history at the University of Zagreb (1965). Since 1966, lecturer at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Prishtina for the subjects ancient history and Latin language. He has been working in Zagreb since 1993. He completed specializations in Italy (University of Rome) and in Germany (Heidelberg, Munich). In addition to teaching, Zef Mirdita developed scientific research activities in the ancient history of Albania, especially of the Dardanians. He has published the monographs: “Dardanci i Dardanija u antici”, Zagreb, 1972 (“The Dardanians and Dardania in ancient times”); “Studime dardane” (“Dardanian studies”) (Prishtina, 1979; Tirana, 1982), “Antroponimia e Dardanisë në kohën romake” (“Anthroponymy of Dardania in Roman times”) (Prishtina, 1981), (also published in German, 1982), “Mitet dhe mitologjia në antikë” (“Myths and mythology in antiquity”) (Prishtina, 1988), “Krishtenizmi ndër Shqiptarët” (“Christianity among Albanians”) (Prizren, 1998) and “Religion und Kulte der Dardaner und Dardaniens in der Antike”, Zagreb, 2001 (“Religion and cults of the Dardanians and Dardania in antiquity”).
