Pertef Pogoni

Pertef Pogoni, a prominent figure in Albanian education, passed away. He was born in the village of Voshtime, in 1891. He attended primary school in his hometown, while he attended secondary school in Zosimea in Ioannina (Greece) and Mulqije in Istanbul (Turkey). In the years 1918-1920, he took the position of inspector of education near the prefecture of Gjirokastra. At a relatively young age, 30 years old, he was appointed General Secretary in the Ministry of Education. On  March 30, 1926, the French High Institution awarded Pertef Pogon the “Legion of Honor” Order. On January 31, 1927, the president of the Republic, Ahmet Zogu, awarded Pertef Pogon the decoration “Commander of the Order of Skanderbeg”. In 1929, he left the Ministry of Education and was appointed director of studies at the royal military school in Tirana. In 1933-1934, he was appointed director of the National High School of Korça. After 1934, Pogoni took the post of general secretary in the Ministry of Education. During the war years, the house of the Pogons became a nursery of the capital’s resistance.
