In Thessaloniki (Greece), the first issue of the newspaper “Lirija” (1908-1910), a weekly political, social, cultural and literary newspaper, was published. It continued until number 108. It was directed by Lumo Skëndo; was printed at the “Mbrothësia” printing house in Sofia. At first it was limited to national cultural demands in the framework of the Young Turk regime, while later it supported the anti-Ottoman uprising of 1910. Due to the persecutions and massacres of the Ottoman expedition commanded by Shefqet Turgut Pasha, the newspaper “Lirija” was forced to close its activity in its 108th issue.
