Memo Nexhip Bejko, an anti-fascist fighter and Hero of the People, was killed on the battlefield while supporting the border post of Vidohova (Korçë). He was born in the village of Dukaj in the district of Tepelena in 1926. An active participant in the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War, he initially served as a fighter in the partisan detachments of Tepelena, later joining the “Baba Abaz” battalion, where he held the position of deputy company commander in the II Battalion of the VI Assault Brigade. After the liberation, he took on various command duties within the ranks of the People’s Army. During the provocations of August 1949, he directed the military actions of a battalion in support of the border post of Vidohova, defending the homeland’s borders against the attacks of Greek forces. It was in this effort that he fell on the battlefield. (In the photo: Memo Nexhip Bejko)
