In Përmet, Aristotel Papa was born, a lyrical landscape painter of nature in Albania, in the second half of the 20th century. He partially completed his studies at the Academy of Arts in Zagreb, Croatia (1946, former Yugoslavian FR). Together with Andrea Mano and Abdulla Cangonji (Emini), he later completed his studies in Bulgaria. His creativity was dedicated to the landscape of the Tirana area. In some of the Papa’s paintings, the influence of French impressionism is often felt. Papa is considered as the realistic landscape painter of the area of Central Albania. In his paintings, within the simplicity and ordinary landscape that he painted, one can feel a deep love for nature, a processing of detail, elegance in drawing and a typical Albanian light. He passed away in Tirana, in 2002. (In the photo: The Papa’s work “Korieri i Lidhjes”, 1978, oil on canvas.)
