In Lungro of Calabria, the II Arbëresh Congress for the language was convened, an assembly of Arbëresh people of Italy at the end of the 19th century, to serve the coordination of the work of the patriots for the problems of the Albanian language and efforts for the independence of Albania. At the congress, besides the Arbëresh, there were also representatives from Albanians residing in Romania and Austria, as well as friends of Albania from various countries. At the congress, it was decided to request the Italian government to open a branch of the Albanian language at the Oriental Institute of Naples and to officially recognize the Albanian language for Arbëresh residents. The Congress also decided to support the work of Albanian patriots for the spread of education and national culture in Albania, cooperating for this with the activists of Albania and the Albanian colonies in Romania, Egypt, etc. (In the picture: View from Lungro of Calabria.)
