Agim Ramadani, a political and military activist and Hero of Kosovo, was born in the village of Zhegër in the municipality of Gjilan. He completed his studies at the Military Academy in Zagreb. Since high school, he has been involved in poetry and painting. He held solo and joint exhibitions in Croatia and Switzerland. With the onset of the war in Croatia, he left the Yugoslav army and in 1990, together with his family, emigrated to Switzerland. There, he continued his patriotic, cultural, and artistic activities. He was elected director of the Cultural Center for the Diaspora and Migrant in Zurich, Switzerland. He returned to Kosovo in June 1998 and was stationed in the Dukagjin Operative Zone. On August 9 and September 15, 1998, he participated in military actions of the Kosovo Liberation Army, carried out in Oplazë and the mountain of Gjeravica, where significant losses were inflicted upon the enemy. During the ceasefire period between the Kosovo Liberation Army and Yugoslav forces, from October to December 1998, he returned to Switzerland to mobilize young people into the ranks of the Kosovo Liberation Army. On April 9, 1999, a unit of the 138th Brigade of the Dukagjin Operative Zone, led by Agim Ramadani, in direct combat with Serbian military and paramilitary forces, managed to repel Serbian military points in the Koshare area of the border belt between Yugoslavia and Albania. He fell heroically in direct combat at the site called Rrasa e Zogut. After his fall, the 138th Brigade was named after him. In 2005, he was honored with the “Hero of Kosovo” Order, while in 2015, he was awarded the “Honour of the Nation” decoration in Albania. (In the photo: Agim Ramadani)
