In Zalli i Kirit (Shkodër), at 5 o’clock in the morning, Father Çiprian Nika, teacher, publicist, martyr of the Catholic Church, was shot outside the walls of the cemetery. He was born in Shkodër. Orphaned at age five, he attended primary and secondary school at the friars in Shkodër, while completing his theology studies in Austria. He wore the Franciscan cloak on October 16, 1916, and solemnized his vows on September 16, 1921, while on July 25, 1924, he was ordained a priest in the city of Rome, Italy. During his life, he took on several main roles: teacher of novices and clerics, provincial of the Franciscans (1938–1941), and warden of the Shkodra assembly from 1943 until the end of his life. He was arrested on the charge of placing and hiding weapons in the altar of the church, with the intention of carrying out an armed uprising.
