The “Battle of Modrica” took place between the Albanian army led by Skënderbeu and the Ottoman troops commanded by Hamza Pasha. The Albanian infantry met the Ottoman cavalry in the gorge of Modrica (Southern Kosovo) and with a sudden and lightning strike smashed it. The part of the Ottoman army that escaped was met in the narrows of the valley by the Albanian cavalry. In the battle, the Ottomans left many dead. Their commander himself along with the staff were captured. The victory in Modrica was the first against the Ottoman forces since the accession to the throne of Sultan Mehmet II.
