Bep Jubani

Bep Jubani, archaeologist, researcher of prehistory, was born in Shkodër. He completed his higher studies in archeology in Saint Petersburg. At the beginning of the 60s of the 20th century, he directed the excavations in the prehistoric fortified center of Gajtan. In these years, his research interest also included several settlements of Southeastern Albania, such as that of Kamnik in Kolonjë and, especially, the tumulus cemeteries of Northern Albania, such as those in Krumë, Çinamak, Kënetë (of Kukës), Shkrel and Shtoj. He was arrested in 1976, and on July 29 of the same year, by decision no. 58, the District Court of Tirana declared him guilty of “agitation and propaganda” and decided to confine the defendant to a medical institution for forced treatment. He passed away in Tirana, in 2014. (In the photo: Bep Jubani)
