Hasan Ceka, one of the founders of Albanian archaeology, specialist in the period of antiquity and in the field of numismatics, professor, passed away. He was born in Elbasan, in 1900. He completed high school in his hometown. He completed his higher studies at the University of Vienna for archeology (1930). That same year he returned to his homeland, where he worked on the creation of an archaeological collection and represented the Albanian state near foreign missions in Butrint and Apolloni. From 1947 until he retired (1974) he developed extensive research and study activities. Apollonia was the city where he excavated and studied for 40 years. Author of dozens of articles on broad historical-archaeological topics, published abroad. As a connoisseur of ancient Greek and Latin, he provided basic assistance in the preparation for the publication of the volume “Ilirët dhe Iliria tek autorët antikë” (“Illyrians and Illyria in ancient authors”). He paid special attention to the creation of the numismatic cabinet, which served to crown his research work with the publication of the works “Probleme të numizmatikës ilire” (““Problems of Illyrian Numismatics”)(1965) and “Në kërkim të historisë ilire” (“In search of Illyrian history”) (1998).
