Kolë Margjini, an educator, was born in Prizren. He completed his pedagogical studies in Austria. In 1913, he started working at the People’s School as a mathematics teacher, then as a German teacher in several schools in the country. In the founding of the cultural-sports society “Vllaznia” (“Brotherhood”)in 1919, he was elected to its presidency. In 1923 he was appointed director of education in the Prefecture of Berat, and between 1936 and 1939 he served in the same position in the Prefecture of Shkodra. He made an important contribution to the compilation and adaptation of several textbooks, such as: Arithmetic for class IV, Arithmetic for class V, Mathematics for class I of high school, Algebra for the lower course of high school, etc. For his professional merits, he represented Shkodra in three national educational congresses (1920, 1922, 1924). In 1941, he opened the first high school in the Albanian language in Prizren. Two years later, in 1943, he was elected a member and, later, vice president of the steering committee of the Second League of Prizren. In January 1945, he was arrested in Shkodër and handed over to the Serbs, who sentenced him first to death and then to imprisonment. He died after five years in the notorious prison of Sremska-Mitrovica, in Serbia. In 1992, the President of the Republic decorated him with the “Martyr of Democracy” medal. Two years later, in 1994, he was awarded the title “Teacher of the People”. On November 27, 2002, the Shkodra Municipality Council named the forestry secondary school after him, and on March 7, 2009, he was announced “Honorary Citizen” (posthumously).
