Father Bernardin Palaj, martyr of the Catholic Church, died in the prison of Shkodra due to torture, before he was sentenced. He was born in Shkodër, in 1894. He attended all the schools of the Minor Friars of Shkodër, while he completed high school in Salzburg and studied philosophy and theology in Innsbruck, Austria. He was ordained a priest on August 2, 1918. He taught Albanian and Latin at the “Illyricum high school of Minor Friars”. He worked in the parishes of Toplane, Palçi, Shala, Bushkash, Plani and Rubik. He was arrested in Rubik and imprisoned in Shkodër, on October 22, 1946. He died in the prison of Shkodër, due to torture, in 1946. (In the photo: Bernardin Palaj)
