Aleksandër Stipçeviç, an esteemed historian of antiquity and Illyrian scholar, passed away in Zagreb. Born in an Albanian family in Arbnesh, Zara, in 1930, he completed his high school education in his hometown and later studied archaeology, graduating from the University of Zagreb in 1954. In 1957, he began working at the National University Library of Zagreb, and in the early 1970s, he served as an archaeology lecturer at the University of Prishtina. He also held the position of director of the Library of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Zagreb from 1974 to 1983. Stipçeviç was a member of the editorial board of the magazine “Gjurmime albanologjike” (“Albanological Traces”) for 15 years. After completing his doctorate in 1977, he was awarded the titles of “Senior Advisor in Librarianship” and “Scientific Advisor in the Field of Social Sciences” the following year. He later became a full professor at the Faculty of Philosophy (Department of Librarianship) at the University of Zagreb. Stipçeviç authored numerous studies in Illyrianology, including “Gli Illiri” (1967) (“The Illyrians”), “Arte degli Illiri” (1967) (“Art of the Illyrians”), “Bibliographia Illyrica” (1967) (“Bibliography for the Illyrians”), and “Cult of the Symbol of Ilira” (1983) (“Symbols of the Cult of Ilira“), as well as works in Albanology such as “Albanological Interpretations” and “Ethnogenesis of Albanians.” He published the monograph “History of the Book” (“Historia e librit“) in 1988, along with a number of scientific articles.
