In Korçe, Pandeli Evangjeli, activist of the National Renaissance, prime minister and high official of the state during the period of independence, passed away. He was born in Korça, in 1859. In 1878, he emigrated to Bucharest. He was involved in the patriotic activity of the Albanian colony of Romania. In 1895 he was elected chairman of the “Dituria(“Knowledge”)society and in 1907, together with other Albanian patriots, he created the “Committee for the freedom of Albania” in Bucharest. In 1919, he headed the representation of the Albanian colony of Romania at the Peace Conference in Paris; in 1920, he was appointed a member of the Albanian government delegation to that conference. He returned to Albania in 1921 and worked in the higher institutions of the Albanian state. Twice Prime Minister, Member of Parliament, Minister of Foreign Affairs, President of the Parliament, and the Senate. He was decorated with the “Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg” order.
