Jakup Mato, critic, esthete, researcher of literature and arts, professor, was born in the village of Fterrë in Saranda. He completed his higher studies in the branch of Albanian language and literature at the University of Tirana (1959). He worked as a literature specialist, editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Mesuesi“ (“The teacher”) and director of arts in the Ministry of Education and Culture (1970), director of the Higher Institute of Arts (1987-1992), then scientific worker and director of the Study Center of Arts of the Academy of Sciences. He has published the books: “Risi të letërsisë shqipe” (“Novelty of Albanian literature”) (1983), “Paradokset e satirës dhe të humorit“ (“The paradoxes of satire and humor”) (2000), “Poetika e dramaturgjisë dhe mendimit estetik” (“Poetics of dramaturgy and aesthetic thought”) (2005), as well as several critical and scientific articles on literature and interaction of the arts. In his studies, he dealt with a series of problems of the aesthetic nature and the theory of literature and arts, closely related to the processes, phenomena, and contemporary developments of the Albanian arts, as well as historical views on them.
