Father Mikele Bulmeti (Italian: Michele Bulmetti), an Arbëresh missionary, passed away. He was born in Portocannone, Molise, Italy. Bulmeti arrived in Albania at the end of 1991, shortly after the fall of the communist regime, after returning from a brief mission in Madagascar. He was born in a place of Albanian origin and strongly felt the Albanian blood and the nostalgia for his ancient roots within himself. Father Bulmeti served as a parish priest in Gurëz (Lezhë). He spent the last eight years of his life dedicating himself unreservedly to helping the people of the newly liberated Albanian nation from communist dictatorship and to assisting in the reconstruction of the Catholic Church and Albanian society.
