In Tirana, Ethem bey Vlora, the son of Ismail Qemal bey Vlora, the founder of the Albanian State, passed away. He was born in Istanbul in 1884, where he completed his primary education, and then studied in various European cities, such as Lausanne, Paris, and Brussels. In October 1912, before Ismail Qemali left for Bucharest to begin the journey towards Independence, Ethemi went to Vlora and participated in the preparatory Commission for the Declaration of Independence, being the coordinator of this Commission with Ismail Qemali. He participated in the delegation of the Government of Vlora, headed by Ismail Qemali, to the Conference of Ambassadors in London (1913). In 1914, after the resignation of Ismail Qemali from the government, he left Albania with his father. In December 1918, the Italian government invited Ismail Qemali to Rome, to coordinate actions on the future of Albania. From Spain, where he was with his family, Ismail Qemali, accompanied by his two sons, Ethemi and Qazimi, left for Italy. After the death of Ismail Qemali, Ethem bey Vlora was elected by the Albanians of America, gathered around the “Partia Politike”, a delegate to the Peace Conference in Paris, among distinguished figures, such as Hasan Prishtina, Aqif Pasha Elbasani, Pandeli Cale, Mithat Frashëri, Ali bey Klisyra, Nuredin bey Vlora, etc.. Later, he settled in Tirana and did not engage in politics. In 1932, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Independence, where the ceremony of transferring Ismail Qemali’s remains from Kanina to Vlora took place, Ethemi handed over the double-headed flag that was raised in Vlora, the Day of the Declaration of Independence. Ethem bey Vlora married Ismete Ohri (Toptani), with whom he had no children. Unexpectedly, Ethem bey Vlora passed away at Tirana’s “Zog I” hospital. (In the photo: Ethem bey Vlora)
