Andrea Varfi, writer, publicist, and translator passed away. He was born in Qeparo, in 1914. He received his elementary lessons from the teacher of the first Albanian school in the village, his permanent mentor, his father, Epaminonda Varfi. He graduated from high school in Tirana in 1935. He attended higher studies at the University of Perugia, at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. After completing his academic engagement, in 1941 he returned to his homeland. Varfi contributed to the National Liberation War. In 1945, he was appointed head of the subdivision for cultural and propaganda issues, in the Department of Agriculture. In 1947, he served a two-year sentence on charges of collaboration with the British agency. After declaring his innocence, he started working at the “Naim Frashëri” publishing house and then at the League of Writers. Varfi also wrote poetry and satirical prose, in the interval of 1952-1960. Varfi adapted De Rada’s main works into today’s language, such as “Serafina Topia“, “Rëfime të Arbërit“ (“Arbër’s Stories”), “Këngët e Milosaos“ (“The songs of Milosao”), etc. (In the photo: Andrea Varfi)
